A Weekend Adventure to Gammy and PawPaw’s

This past weekend while hubby was out of town for work, we packed up and went to my Ma and Pa’s house. Mom had the weekend all planned out and it was packed of goodness. The plan was to spend the weekend crafting and DIYing, and that we did…and the best part- Mema and Pepa were there too!

The festivities began Friday night when we arrived and began preparing shrimp for dinner…that junk was the bomb dot com. So yummy that I didn’t even stop for a picture of the goodness. The babies enjoyed some mini ice cream cones, they were REALLY mini, but that didn’t stop the babies from enjoying the yummies.

IMG_4691

We went on a golf cart ride, or two, or three…we had to literally drag little man off the golf cart. But it was such a beautiful ride.

Gammy is a fast driver…

Saturday morning we packed up and shipped out to do some picking. I had so much fun rounding up old tables, signs, etc. The babies enjoyed running freely searching for their finds, and finds they found! That sounds like a sentence from a Dr. Seuss book.

I found some pretty awesome stuff and have some big visions for some of these pieces. I’m really not sure that my “visions” can actually be accomplished but I’m gonna give ‘er a shot, if I fail at least I can say I went down fighting right!?

Then we headed home to get started redoing Momma’s guest bedroom, check that out here!

Saturday night was spent painting, painting, oh and don’t forget we painted!

Apparently, while we were working on picking, painting, and playing (my three favorite P’s) mother nature was creating her own DIY project AKA Tropical Storm Debbie. I had NO clue there was even a possibility of a storm out there. Don’t judge me: I LOVE hurricane season. I think it is so fascinating seeing storms develop and become so powerful literally overnight. I love being inside on a calm afternoon listening to the rain and thunder. I love watching the lightning storms that often get in the summers in Florida. I love tracking the storms and making my own projection of which way they are going to travel. I love taking pictures of storms rolling in and seeing the front in the clouds breaking through. It’s remarkable. Don’t get me wrong, I do not like the damage they cause, the devastation, and leaving so many homeless. I pray for all the families that are suffering from TS Debbie and hope the state will soon dry out and recover.

So while we were glued to the TV watching the Weather Channel. I repainted mom’s lamp and my new canvas art work (will show the final results of that soon).

The babies always enjoy bath time in Gammy’s tub.

We finished mom’s room late Saturday night and when I say I crashed, I CRASHED. I have not slept that hard in a LONG time. Apparently I slept right through the babies waking up Sunday morning, thankfully Momma and Mema had the babies covered and I woke to hear “shhh mommy is sleeping” ahh the joys of spending the night with family that doesn’t get to wake early with two toddlers every weekend.

Sunday we had the cousins coming to play. My cousins have babies all under 4 years old…I’m not sure what those are technically to little man and baby girl, second cousins maybe?! It doesn’t matter they had a blast!

IMG_4838 copy

Do yall see the curls on that girl!?  Aint they so precious!?

Hiding in the bucket.

And in the doll house!

Talking on the “doll house treadmill” phone.

We played inside for a long time. After a couple hours of six toddlers running around screaming, it was time to move the party outside. TS Debbie can’t take down six toddlers. Thankfully she was nothing more than a little wind and LOTS of rain, at least around here. We played in the rain we did.

Those curls…I’m kinda in love with curly hair.  Can’t help it!

Snack time with Doritos.

That is a picture full of baby beauty!!

IMG_4921 copy

She’s not sure if she wants to get in the rain- might mess up her hair! Smile

IMG_4923 copy

Momma!!

IMG_4925 copy

Little boys always love playing in the rain.

IMG_4927 copy

She is still thinking about the rain…maybe she should just stay on the porch!

He took a break to rest his tired feet.

Wagon ride through the rain drops!

IMG_4947 copy

More Doritos.

IMG_4951 copy

The rain was so cold the babies were all shaking!

IMG_4953 copy

Pretty girl.

The kids children (hubby would correct me by saying “aint no baby goats around here”) all enjoyed eating, playing in the rain, and eating some more.

It was so nice to see my family. We all live in different cities and are grown married, have babies, etc. busy lives and don’t really get to see each other just because. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to have all the babies together again soon to play.

We had a blast this weekend at Gammy and Pawpaw’s house. It was jammed packed, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sunday when we got home we were all so tired. I don’t even know if I dreamed.

P.S.

Why yes, thank you Gammy for sending home two cupcakes. The babies DEMANDED they have one before bed time, then I heard them laying in bed talking for the next half hour til they fell asleep. “No nite-nite Mommy, no nite-nite”.

HGTV My Momma!!!

I have “HGTVed” my MIL remember that from this post?!  Well this past weekend was my Momma’s turn.  We are working to slowly makeover her home into a beach home.  We are taking it one room at a time.  So this past weekend we started with the guest bedroom.

IMG_4738 copy

The walls and furniture were all neutral.  I have always thought her walls were white until looking at these pictures and here you can tell they are actually tan.  She wanted to repaint her side table and mirror, and she bought a "P” initial art for the wall and we collected a few odds and ends around the house to decorate with.

IMG_4740 copy

My mom was the “high trimmer” while I “trimmed low” and Mema rolled out with her homies! Smile  After only a few seconds we heard “wow, that’s yellow”…I was beginning to think my Momma was regretting her paint choice.  After a few jokes, we concluded that we liked it!  These pictures make it look really yellow, and it is…but it is pretty too!

IMG_4747

IMG_4750

Roll Mema roll!

Before we started painting Saturday morning, we headed to Havana for some picking.  I racked up, more on my loot to come!  Here is a sneak peak into the painting chamber.  I was battling TS Debbie outside while I attempted to at least get one coat of paint on all the pieces, that didn’t happen.

IMG_4754

The pink arrows are pointing out my digs, while the others are from Mom’s guest bedroom.  We started by painting her side table.

IMG_4755 copy

The table took…wait for it…FIVE coats!!  We sanded, painted and painted, painted some more!

IMG_4757

You see that mirror over there all taped off, pretty, and shiny…well so did the babies and they began jumping on it.  Painting around toddlers, not such a good idea.

IMG_4760

Oh but wait, Gammy pre-planned for this.  She bought four different projects for the babies to paint while we were painting.  We all had this cute little vision, the babies painting on the porch while we painted in the yard.  All is gravy baby!  But it wasn’t quite that way, the painting lasted all of two minutes…literally!  But they made some beautiful artwork in that two minute span.

IMG_4761

After they got bored with their painting, baby girl decided to come help us paint.

IMG_4828 copy copy

Ta-da it’s done.  After we started filling the room, it didn’t look so yellow.

IMG_4819 copy

One of the new accessories Mom found was this lantern, aint it cute?  I like the shell with it.

IMG_4811 copy

I sewed five pillow cases for the pillows on her bed, I love how they compliment each other but don’t match.  Good fabric picks Mom!

IMG_4827 copy

The paisley is to die for.  And that rabbit, was my sister’s so special Smile

IMG_4828 copy

Another “after” shot.

IMG_4829 copy copy

Here is the table after and the lamp.  It was a brown color but I painted it a teal color.  My intention was to paint it several times to make it real teal, but after seeing the brown come through in random places, I kind of like it like that.  Eventually I want to burlap a lamp shade for my house and when I do I’m going to tackle her’s as well.

IMG_4831

Beside the closet she hung five frames with little shells in them.

IMG_4835

I think they are adorable.

IMG_4832

See that art work, you can’t buy it anywhere…Mom painted that!  She’s amazing, I can’t help but brag on her a little.  I actually stole some of her art work that I am in the process of mod podging to a canvas for my home as we speak, I can’t wait to share it!

IMG_4833

I like the frame, shell, and prop decorations on this hutch.  Is that a hutch?!  I think it’s a hutch, but I’m not sure.

There ya have it, the beginning to Mom’s beach house makeover- one room at a time!  I had such a great time helping her this weekend and can’t wait to tackle the rest of the house.  We also enjoyed some time with Mema and Pepa, Pawpaw, and the cousins came over to play.  It was a jammed packed weekend and when I got home Sunday I was TIRED!  When I say tired I mean like body hurting, once my head hit the pillow I was out, TIRED!

I’m working on weekend wrap up pictures now…hoping to get those up tomorrow.  There is just one small problem, I took 300 pictures this weekend!  How does one do that?!?!  I think I need to start putting the camera away…better yet I will just keep snapping.  We bought a nice camera to capture the babies’ lives as they grow up and by golly I’m going to make it my goal to capture every second of it!!

Hope your weekend was packed with goodness like ours was.  Tomorrow is hump day yall and it looks like we are in for some sunny days in our future finally!

I Slip, You Slide

Do you remember when you were little and your parents bought that super awesome yellow piece of plastic with a little bitty pool at the end of it?!  Or how about when you were in collage and your and your sorority sisters ran to Wal-Mart and bought a huge, clear, plastic tarp and threw it on the side of a hill in the middle of campus and the frat boys came and squirted five HUGE bottles of dish detergent on it and everybody left the “social” with cuts and bruises?!  The slip-n-slide has come a l-o-n-g way, but whoever originally came up with the idea was brilliant!  Last summer while we were still living with my parents, they bought a slip-n-slide pool…looked but I couldn’t find pictures of it…it had a short slide but a decent pool with a little ramp into the pool.  It was super AWESOME!  Us adults: momma, daddy, gammy, and pawpaw of course had to give it a slide to make sure it was working *wink wink*.  It worked and we had such a great time.  Hubby cleared the pool and almost slammed into my parents house, several times!  Fast forward a year, that poor pool had ran its term and was pretty much out of service after our last visit to my parent’s house.  This past Sunday my parents were expecting us for Father’s Day so on my mom’s way home from work on Friday she pulled into Wal-Mart and searched for a new slip-n-slide pool.  They were out *BOO!* but she did find a blow up pool with a slide.

IMG_4648 copy

Check it out!  The babies were so excited to get in and see what it was about!  At first they wanted nothing more than to ride the sides of the pool like a “yee-haw”. IMG_4631 copy

IMG_4637 copy

After they got used to the cold water and the pool, they were totally into it.  They had the best time running from the sand box to the pool and back and forth.  The slide on the other hand…

IMG_4627 copy

They were not too sure about.  First time down it was cold and they were shocked by the water hitting them in the face.

IMG_4630 copy

She knows the camera is pointed her way.

IMG_4632 copy

Baby girl’s turn on the slide…

IMG_4633 copy

and she ended up head first in the bottom of the pool…she was DONE at that point.  No more slide for princess!

IMG_4634 copy

Hey handsome!

IMG_4636 copy

Instead of sliding, I shall continue to ride my yee-haw, thank you!

IMG_4639 copy

Little man decided to bypass the slide and dive head first into the pool…whatever floats your boat right!?

IMG_4643 copy

After a while baby girl decided the pool was enough for her and she began jumping.

IMG_4644 copy

She was very interested about the trampoline and how it was made.

We had a great time with Gammy and Pawpaw, it was very relaxing and enjoyable.  We rode the golf cart a couple times and of course little man was wanting to ride more.

IMG_4651 copy

Before we headed home I had to get a picture with daddy/pawpaw.  I wish hubby could have been with us, but we had a great time and we are so thankful to have such a wonderful pawpaw/daddy in our life!
