Bye Bye Facebook

Facebook and I have been really good friends for six years now and this has been a very difficult choice for me to make.  I am actually really nervous that I may regret this in a few days, but I hope not.  I first want to say I love each and every one of my friends and family I have found, kept up with, and communicate with on fb...and I really hope that deleting my fb doesn't end that communication.  :/

I drive down the road and see mommas texting on their cell phone with their babies in the back looking out the window.  I walked in walmart the other day and a woman was talking on her phone with her babies following behind her like little ducklings.  I was at the doctor's office and saw a woman texting on her phone while her son sat beside her trying to get her attention and her not paying any attention to him.  It is EVERYwhere...people are so addicted to their cell phones it sickens me.

In the last few weeks, I have found myself waking up and checking my cell phone...getting in the car and checking it again...sitting at work and checking my phone...sitting at a red light (no I don't text and drive) checking my phone...my babies playing in the floor and I'm on my phone...I'm tired of it, I've had enough.  What happened to true family time?  What happened to REAL friends (you know like the ones you watch football games with, your children play with, you go to the mall with, meet for lunch, the friends you actually CALL just to chat), not just people that have met you once or twice, or know you through Bob your neighbor who knows Judy the bag lady at Publix?  What happened to our free time being spent playing baseball with our son in the yard, or painting your daughter's toe nails?  What happened to checking your email when you get home and have a chance to log on to the computer?

I realized that I, like all those other cell phone addicts, am missing SO much.  Mainly with my children growing up.  They are going to be grown and gone one day and I want to be able to say, I spent every second I could with them and not attached to technology.

I know this post is mainly directed to my cell phone but fb is just as much to blame.  And since I cannot break my cell phone contract, I will take actions somewhere else...fb.

I also find it scary how much information is on fb and I know that my family and friends will keep up with me regardless if I'm a facebookie or not.  I'm also pretty excited that this will give me more of a chance to keep my blog updated and the blog is awesome because I can actually go back and read about events in my life (like I often do) whenever I want.

I really hope this doesn't make anyone mad, it is a personal choice of my own and I am very excited about it and how different it will be.  I love you all and hope you will continue to follow me on blogger!!!! :)

I feel like you read my mind!! I have been contemplating doing the very same thing. This time is so precoius and the last thing I want to do is have regrets about my priorities. I don't think anyone will look back and say "gee, I sure wish I had spent more time on FB when my kids were little!" In fact, it will probably be just the opposite. I admire you! :)

I am just now reading this but I completely agree with everything you're saying. It's a major eye opener for me. I only have a basic cell phone that has texting blocked because I can't stand it, but I do have a laptop that I'm all the time. I'm so glad to read this.
